Bamenda Regional Hospital Staff Association (BARHSA) votes new bureau for a two-year mandate

Staff of the Bamenda Regional Hospital  Wednesday took to the pools to elect a new executive bureau to lead in the activities of their association for the next two years.

In a voting exercise supervised by the hospital Chaplaincy as the electoral body and in the presence of hospital administration and staff,

Mrs Kiiyeh Mary Anne was retained as President with a 110-vote score as opposed to her vice who got 106 votes.

For the position of Financial Secretary, Mrs Besong Pauline was retained  with a landslide victory of 210 votes as opposed to Mrs Tosam Miranda who scored 43 votes.

For the position of Treasurer, Dr. Mrs Gwanyama Noela had 182 votes to maintain her position. Despite being the lone candidate for the position, the elections body and the electors agreed that voting be carried out all the same because the constitution states that in such a case, the person wins by simple majority and she fits in with the number of votes.

Mr. Tita Denis emerged as BARHSA’s Public Relations Officer with 126 votes and his vice Mr. Anguh Kenneth followed with 57 votes.

In a process considered by observers as transparent, the newly elected bureau promised to be rich in productivity. Its President Mrs. Kiiyeh Mary Anne said “The innovation we have to implement amongst other things, is to start a newsletter wherein our activities as an association can be published. We pray for the staff to be more collaborative and enjoy this renewed confidence they have bestowed on my team and I.”

During the brief gathering the Director thought it wise to present the Activity Report for the year 2021 to the general assembly. Dr Denis Nsame, revealed that malaria, dental diseases, COVID19, upper respiratory track infections, hypertension were ranked among the top five diseases in 2021, while COVID-19-related complications, gunshot injuries, septic shocks, chronic kidney and congestive heart failure featured amongst the top five causes of death in 2021. In addition, the Director enumerated some of 2021. In the domain of infrastructure, there was the construction of a second mortuary, the construction of a 25-room VIP Centre (Solidarity Ward) by the Ministry of Public Health, the renovation of Reanimation Ward by the WHO, the construction of a platform to harbour a generator donated by the City Council, the construction of a second water purification plant at the Dialysis Centre, the construction of an embarkment in front of the mortuary, the construction of a Client & Staff toilet at the mortuary, the installation of Screening Canopies at the main entrance to the hospital, the creation and equipment of the Kit Room, the creation of an Obstetric Kit Room at the Maternity, the repairs or leakages in D-Ward, the drainage of a septic tank in the E-Ward.
